The popular messaging application WhatsApp has decided to end the facility of giving free backup service to the users.
According to the website ‘The Verge’, in terms of backups, Android users will no longer get free service on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is making this change after five years in which users will no longer be able to store data for free in Google Drive storage.
Both Google and WhatsApp have announced that whether a user has a free 15GB Google Drive plan or purchased storage, WhatsApp beta users’ chat history, including photos and videos, since December It will be stored on Google Drive storage.
WhatsApp says that this change will be rolled out to all Android users in the first part of 2024 and users will be notified 30 days before the change.
Users who don’t have the Google Drive storage option can also protect their data through WhatsApp chat transfer.
On the other hand, Google has indicated that no further changes will be made regarding WhatsApp data except for Google storage.
After this update, if a user deletes something in WhatsApp, it will also be deleted in the cloud backup, which can free up space in the drive.
After the data space in Google Drive is full, users will be able to get more storage with a Google One Keypad subscription.
