Israel-Hamas war updates: U.N. Security Council tries to avoid U.S. veto on resolution to stop fighting

The U.N. Security Council will reconvene Thursday after a vote on a war-related resolution was delayed three times because of opposition from the United States. World powers are trying to hone the resolution’s language so that Washington won’t veto it. The political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, visited Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials, who along with Qatar have acted as intermediaries in negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
